Three undergraduate Merage School students – Ryan Dat Duong ’18, Phung Kim Huynh, ’18 and Joleen Rebecca Hsu ’18 – were among those awarded scholarships by Boeing during the company’s annual Meet and Greet event. Executives from Boeing had the opportunity to meet scholarship recipients and to hear from UCI leadership about the impact of their generous giving efforts.
For over two decades, Boeing has donated generously to UCI in support of student scholarships and various research and outreach programs including the Claire Trevor School of the Arts’ Expressive Robotics Camp, The Paul Merage School of Business LIFEvest program, School of Physical Sciences’ Math CEO and the Samueli School of Engineering Design Build Fly program.
According to Daryl Pelc, vice president of Engineering & Product Support, Global Services & Support, for The Boeing Company, “After celebrating our 100 year milestone last year, Boeing has entered one of the most exciting times in their history. Along with over 150 aerospace start-up companies in Orange County, Boeing is reinvigorating the industry with advances in multiple areas including unmanned or drone vehicles.” Pelc shared that there is plenty of opportunity for talented UCI students, emphasizing it is not just engineering skills they are looking for. Creativity and business acumen are also valuable assets they are seeking.
