Irvine, CA – April 4, 2017 – The Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with Calit2 will kick off the 2017 Entrepreneur Speaker Series on April 20 with speaker Darin Anderson, chairman and CEO of Salas O’Brien and newly appointed member of the UC Board of Regents. The presentation will be held in the Calit2 building on the UC Irvine campus beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a reception immediately following.
“Darin is a dynamic speaker with a knack for connecting with audience members about what it truly takes to be an entrepreneur. His valuable wisdom, unique point of view and motivational style will benefit all entrepreneurs who attend,” said Ken Beall, Co-Founder of the Beall Center. “We are honored to have Darin as our speaker. This will be an evening to remember.”
Anderson will share his life experiences and entrepreneurial journey growing companies, most notably Salas O’Brien, the facility planning, design, construction management, and commissioning firm he now heads. Anderson is credited with leading Salas O’Brien to revenue increases of more than 1,200 percent over the last 10 years in an industry that has shown virtually no growth in that same period.
“My story starts with nothing in my pocket and includes the pains, sacrifices, challenges, accomplishments and lessons I experienced along the way to success,” said Anderson. “I am excited to share my journey as an entrepreneur and investor so others may learn from my mistakes, build their own path and have their eyes wide open as they walk into the unknown. I also look forward to sharing my personal experience and the common characteristics and values that I recognize in other successful entrepreneurs.”
A native of California, Anderson joined Salas O’Brien in 2006 and currently serves as chairman and CEO. Under Anderson’s leadership, Salas O’Brien has become one of the preeminent specialty facilities planning, engineering, design, commissioning, and construction management companies in America with more than 300 employees spread across 13 offices around the United States. Anderson also serves as chairman of Muhu, Inc., a startup company developing software in the areas of driver-tech, artificial intelligence (AI), and real-time video.
Anderson has more than 20 years of experience leading large engineering and construction organizations as CEO, COO, and CFO. At 30, he was the CFO of Kleinfelder, a 2,500-person geotech and environmental firm with headquarters in Irvine. His achievements at Salas O’Brien earned him the prestigious EY Entrepreneur of the Year honors in 2016. In addition to his business accomplishments, Anderson is a top-ranked marathon runner and tri-athlete as well as a recently appointed member of the UC Board of Regents. Anderson holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of California, Riverside.
The 2017 Entrepreneur Speaker Series is sponsored by Telogis and Genea and hosted by the Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business. Attendance is complimentary, however space is limited. Attendees must register by April 13 at merage.uci.edu/go/entrepreneurs.
